Calorie is a measurement of heat. It is the amount of energy that is required to raise one milliliter of water by one degree Celsius. Calorie measures the amount of heat or energy that is released when you burn food down.
Calories are burnt through a complicated process that oxidizes food to its basic components. For example, if you burn a sugar, it will turn into carbon dioxide. However in the body, the food burnt is converted to forms of energy.
So therefore when you consume food, the food is broken down and stored as adipose fat or glycogen (which are stored in liver and muscles cells) to be burnt for energy later. Your body prefers to burn glycogen as its first choice of energy rather than body fat when you expand energy such as exercising.
The more muscles you have in your body, the more calories you will burn. The more calories you burnt, the more weight you will lose. This is because muscle cells are metabolically active whereas body fats are not because fat cells do not have much functionality and are mostly inactive.
Different food categories carry different amount of calories. For example, a gram of protein or carbohydrate has about four calories but a gram of fat packs a whopping nine calories. It is thus a no brainer that the more fat you eat the more calories your body will store.
Some people raise their metabolic rate by eating many smaller meals a day instead of three big meals. By eating several 5-6 times a day, your insulin level is also better regulated and less insulin will then be converted to adipose fat.
So how can you burn more calories and further raise your metabolism to naturally burn more calories and body fats? A simple and effective way to burn more calories is to build more muscles as explained above and exercise to expand energy and thus burning more calories in the process.
When you connect to a network, your computer(or IP devise) is assigned an IP address. If you connect through the router, all of the computers on that network will share a similar Internet Protocol address; though each computer on the network will have a unique INTRAnet address. An IP address is the Internet Protocol (IP) address given to every computer connected to the Internet. An IP address is needed to send information, much like a street address or P.O. box is needed to receive regular mail. Tracing an IP address is actually pretty straightforward, and even though it's not always possible to track down a specific individual, you can get enough information to take action and file a complaint.
Steps
Find the IP number you wish to check. The format of an IP address is numeric, written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255.
To find the IP of an e-mail sent to you, investigate the message's "headers" by using your e-mail program's "details" or "properties" function. For example, in Outlook Express, select "Properties" from the "File" Menu, or just press ALT+Enter. Next, select the "Details" tab. In Yahoo, click "Full headers" on the upper right hand corner while you see the message. In Hotmail, go to "Mail Display Settings" and set "Message Headers" to "Full" or "Advanced". See this website for more information on viewing headers.
Go to a website that will allow you to look up IP address information. See External Links below. Type the IP number in the input box and submit.
Understand that in many situations you will learn a few things about the IP address:
Which internet service provider (ISP) the user is using. In some cases this may be the user's company (e.g. Ford.com). In other cases it may be just one of the large ISPs such as ATT or Comcast.
The approximate physical location of the user (e.g. Palo Alto, California.)
Recognize that usually you will not learn the actual name of the person doing at that IP address (e.g. Joe Smith). ISPs will typically only release such information under a court order.
Tips
Another way--if you are using a Windows computer--to find out some information about someone is to go to Command Prompt (if you do not know how to do that, go to the Start menu, Run, and type "cmd" and press OK) and type in tracert . On UNIX (including Linux and OS X), open a shell and use the command traceroute
Warnings
It is not always possible to find out someone's exact address from this. People can take extreme measures to remain anonymous (even forging e-mails). Your search may just result in knowing the company that the person gets their Internet connection from. You can report abuse to that company, but it's not likely they'll divulge contact information for the individual without a court order.
If you are being harassed or you are concerned about your safety, file a complaint with your local police authorities. If you traced the IP address through an e-mail, give them a copy of the e-mail with detailed headers showing.
When it comes to Halloween, you try your best to be original. You look at store bought costumes, and you even try to think of something to put together by yourself. It seems you end up never really knowing what to wear. See what your personality suggests!
Steps
If you have a big interest, such as acting, be a movie star. Or if you love sports, you could take it one step further and dress up as Derek Jeter or Tom Brady.
You could always pick something simple, such as a fairy-princess (think glam accessories, glitter, makeup and pink) or an animal of any sort (think a certain dominant color and a few accessories).
Simply dressing up as a classic sort of thing (witch, cheerleader, etc.) can get boring after a while, so instead, put a spin on classic costumes! You could "halloweenorize" them by making it a goth cheerleader or a goth witch, or even have a preppy witch!
If you really enjoy making costumes and spending a lot of time on them, do something really elaborate and unique. Examples: Evil fairy, Jellicle Cat, various anime characters, any mascot-type costume. Only do this if you're really serious about it, though.
If you really like to shock people a bit though, why not go in the total opposite of what you are, sure it would be hard to keep up, but what is one little trip to the other side of the fence? For example, a prep dresses as a goth, a boy dresses up as a girl, or a popular person dresses as a geek.
Tips
Be creative! You can never go wrong with a creative, all-your-own Halloween costume.
Buy costumes cheaply for next year just after Halloween
Add a special touch. Carry a prop associated with your character.
Act your character. Are you muscular, sexy, old, creaky, zombied? That should tell you how to talk, walk move etc.
Dress Apropriately. That naughty nun outfit might be a hit at the local frat house, not so much at the Methodist Fall Festival.
Warnings
Try not to stretch it TOO MUCH, or, on the other hand, do something TOO cliche. Honestly, who really needs ANOTHER witch??
Don't go too crazy if you can't pull it off. It might be funny for some guy to go as a playboy bunny as a joke, but others might not be able to pull it off.
The best costume is one which anyone can recognise, but no-one has thought of. Be imaginative, but not too obscure.
Be sure that cars can see you when crossing the street. If your costume is all black or mostly black, make sure to put reflective tape somewhere on your costume (chest, head, shoulders, arms, somewhere that a car driver can see you).
Think of idea for your new website. If you already know what you want to make your website about, skip this step. Search other band sites for layout ideas. Brainstorm and write down all of your ideas, no matter how ridiculous they may seem. There's no better place than the Internet to turn an idea into gold. You can also get help by searching the web with "website ideas".
Identify your market. What kinds of people would each of your website ideas serve? Some websites, like Yahoo or Google, are as general as it gets, while other sites, like Weebles, serve a very specific bunch. Write down the target market next to each of the ideas on your list. Conduct market research--Who is your audience? What do they do? How old are they? What are their other interests? All of this information can help you make your website more useful to you.
Do keyword research to determine if other people are searching for your topics and learn more about your potential clients. There are many free keyword tools to help you get more information about your topic. You will need to find keywords that are in demand (people are looking for it) yet have some chance of finding your site. Like a site on web hosting is too broad of a topic. Forum webhosting is a little better (narrower) topic.
Figure out your commitment. How much time and money are you willing to put into your website? You can start and run a website for free, but the more money you want to make from your site, the more time and money you'll have to invest. If you do not care too much about making money (like if you're just interested in showing off your dried bug collection) you can get away with free web hosting and sporadic maintenance.
Content sites will require less investment, but you will also face more competition, since anyone can start a content site. To make money from this kind of site, you provide information and generate income from the traffic you receive through advertising. The trick also will be to 'spin' your content and use specific keywords to narrow down your topic and write high quality content directed to specific people searching for those specific keywords.
E-commerce sites, which sell products, will need more maintenance and attention. You will also need to think about shipping, sales, order form security, inventory updates, and everything that a person with an offline storefront would have to manage.
You can also sell other people's products which will let you make money without investing in any products or worrying about shipping.
Narrow down your list. Which ideas stand to make the most profits? Which ideas require the most commitment? Which ideas look like they'd be fun to pursue? You will be spending time working on your website, so choose the idea you are most passionate about (that is also profitable and practical for you).
Register a domain name (one that's easy to remember and spell) and choose a web host. The best domain name also includes your main keywords and some variation of what solution you provide. You can use a domain availability tool to find an available domain name. For more complicated websites, be willing to shell out the extra bucks; or, you can opt for a free web hosting, which will probably mean having a URL like www.yourdomain.webhostname.com and have ads all over your website. Read the fine print.
Research online website building services. You may wish to learn HTML or CSS code, but there are other ways to make a site for people more familiar with desktop publishing software. A detailed guide on how to set up a website.
Build your website. Here you have a few different options.
Get a website-building program and do it yourself. While this might work for your dried bug page, if you are unsure of your design eye and ability, then it's probably not the best choice if you're trying to make a sharp, professional impression (especially if you're trying to get people to part with their money).
Learn a programming language (or two, or three) and build a website from scratch.
HTML is incredibly easy to learn, and if you are up to it, you will be able to tweak your web design any way you want, and you would not have to pay anybody else to update or change your site.
XHTML is the new web language set by W3C's standards. Almost identical to HTML, it follows a stricter set of rules for marking up information - what this means, for the most part, is minor changes to the way you write code.
CSS, which stands for "Cascading Style Sheets", gives more flexibility for styling the HTML.
A browser sided scripting language, such as JavaScript, allows you to make your page interactive.
A server sided scripting language (PHP, ASP with JavaScript or VB Script or Python) can be used to make things on your site move and edit or create forums.
Wordpress is another great option for building website. Wordpress is a free application that can be installed on your web server and make updating and organizing content very easy.
AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is a technique of using a browser sided language and a server sided language to make the page get new information from the server without refreshing the page, often greatly reducing user wait time and vastly improving the user's experience but increasing bandwidth usage. Think of the possibilities: you could probably make a web based instant messaging service!
Hire a professional. This is the best option for more advanced sites, especially e-commerce sites.
Use keywords that your target audience would search for to get a better search engine ranking. There are several tools available from Google, Overture, and third party software developers that can make the keyword research process easier. Sprinkle the keywords you've chosen throughout your text, but not to the extent that it hurts the quality of your content. Creating pages that are optimized for the search engines will help you get your site found which is really more important than design. What good is a site that no one sees?
Upload your website. Your web host may have an FTP feature, or you can download your own FTP program like FileZilla. If you hired a professional to design the website, he or she may take care of this for you.
Test drive your website. When you finish your website, do usability testing. You can do this by simply asking a few friends or family members to use your website. Give them a specific task like "edit your profile" or "buy an alpaca sweater from the bargains page." Sit behind them and watch them navigate. Do not help them. You will likely find areas where you need to improve navigation or clarify some instructions.
Advertise. Submit your site to major search engines. Tell your friends. Use an e-mail address with your domain. Visit other websites that complement (not compete with) yours, and offer to exchange links. Post constructively on blogs and forums, and put your URL in your signature.
Use article marketing to get back links to your website which will also help your website get found by the search engines.
Provide quality content and service. Take constructive feedback seriously. Other band members, fans, and friends may all have easier navigation ideas. Think about your target market: their needs, their frustrations, their circumstances, and seek to make their lives easier. Strive for a win-win situation for you and your visitors.
Tips
Begin with simple things, practice them and then advance, even if what you create is not very impressive at the time; do not attempt to rush through the tutorials in one. You need to understand them very well, so take your time and test things out. If you wonder whether or not something will work, don't suppress the urge, but find out.
People are often in a hurry. This means that you may only have between 10 and 30 seconds to capture your visitor's attention. To minimize your load time, keep graphics small. Compress them where possible. Use flashy technology JavaScript, Flash, Streaming Audio/Video, etc. sparingly and only if it is important to your presentation.
If you intend to sell a product on your website, you will need to be able to accept secure credit card payments. You can apply for a merchant account, which charges a per-transaction fee, or use a free payment service like PayPal.
Before beginning to read a tutorial, make sure it is the best of the best; you do not want to find half way through that the tutorial's flawed or putting you to sleep. You do not want to have to read the same content over again in a good tutorial, do you? So look into lots of search engine results before picking your tutorial!
Find popular websites, even if they do not have much to do with yours, and use them as models. What are they doing right? Incorporate what you learn from the big shots into your own website. Don't be a copycat, but don't re-invent the wheel.
If you hire a professional to code a complicated site, remember that programmers are not all graphic designers. The most eye-catching sites out there have been made by or with the input of someone involved in graphic design. Programmer also does not usually know much about search engine optimization and getting your website to the top of Google. Try to find someone who does know that or you can learn on your own too.
Create a REAL website. A lame boring website would not do any good! Make it want to attract the people that will bring traffic to your website.
Warnings
Never violate your visitors' trust. Respect their privacy. Spam, annoying pop-ups, and irrelevant ads will hurt your credibility. A clear privacy statement is one way to build your credibility. Provide a prominent link to your privacy statement from every page on the site as well as from any location that you are asking your visitors for personal information. Provide legitimate contact information online. If you need to use ads on your website, explain to your visitors why, and show them that you're doing your best to accommodate their visit. And mean it!
Remember, never delete the details (username, password, etc.) of your account. If you do not have the details when you forget them, you will not be able to work on your website again. More importantly, never give out your details (except for your website address).
If you use content from another website, be it a picture, a JavaScript, or whatever, get permission and give them credit for it. If you do not, they might sue you.
Contrary to what most might think, being a currency trader doesn't mean you have to work in a bank or a financial center; you can actually work from your own home. With the ready availability of the Internet, many people are now venturing into trading currency from their own homes, making money during their spare time or even using it to generate full time income.
Steps
Find a reliable broker. As with any kind of trading, you will need to find a dependable and reliable broker who matches your needs and whom you are happy with. Before opening a live account with a broker, review their working history, and take note of important details such as the length of time they have been in operation. Also, observe their speed and accuracy in answering your questions in emails or phone calls, as this would indicate their level of dedication in ensuring that your needs are taken care of.
Get educated on forex (foreign exchange). Even if you have traded in other markets before, consider getting some education on the forex market as well, while brushing up on your knowledge on the other forms of trading. There is a wide variety of currency pairs available with each one having its own personality and behavior, so it would be best to know the different styles and methods of trading that work best with a certain currency pair.
Find a forex mentor who can assist you. While you want to get help and assistance from someone who has been greatly successful in trading, it is highly unlikely that you will find anyone who has never lost in a trade. Instead of seeking for perfection in a forex mentor, try to look for someone who closely matches the kind of style that you wish to trade with, and still has a good track record. This mentor can help in honing you to become a profitable forex trader yourself.
Tips
Always begin with a positive attitude and mindset.
Make sure that fear and greed don't get to you during trading.
It is important to always put stop losses in order to minimize your loss.
Keep in mind that forex trade should be learned properly and treated like a business even at the onset.
Plan your trading in advance. The most common reason why people lose their money in trading isn't because their luck is turning against them, but because of their lack of planning and knowledge to begin with.
Warnings
Understand that because forex is a very volatile market where the prices can rise and fall steeply and quickly, the risk level is high, and it is possible for you to lose money. In fact, some losses are inevitable, so you should manage your account so that you never risk too much on one trade. You can use stop losses so that your broker will automatically sell if the price goes a certain way against you. The aim is not to have no losses, but to make sure that your profits are higher than your losses so that you still end up with a net gain.
Things You'll Need
Computer equipped with a high speed Internet connection
Start up capital to trade with (can range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars)
Learning to use Photoshop does not have to be difficult. Here's a tutorial for beginners.
Steps
Check out the Photoshop toolbox. Almost every single thing you do in Photoshop will involve using tools from the toolbox. Some of the most commonly used tools are as follows:
Marquee tool - Part of the selection tool and allows the user to selections.
Move tool - Used to move layers and selected objects within the canvas.
Brush tool - Paints brush strokes.
History brush - Can take you back to the original state of the selection. You can have a lot of fun with this tool. Once you learn to use it properly you will be amazed by the professional photo effects you can produce.
Eraser tool - Erases solid colored areas.
Dodge tool - Lightens areas of your picture selectively.
Burn tool - Makes areas on your image darker. Burning and dodging are techniques that were original practiced by photographers in traditional darkrooms for the purpose of lightening or darkening images.
Type tool - Puts text on your image.
Wand Tool- a.k.a. Wanda. When you click on a coloured area, you can select, then erase, colour, or modify the area.
Type Mask tool - Allows you to create a selection in the form of text or type.
Use these tools to create most any design, composite or drawing you want to paint. Learning how to utilize them easily, will make any drawing better and simpler for anyone to design.
The key to fat loss is first figuring out how many calories you should be taking in each day. Many people skip right over this step and jump straight into “eating healthy” but if you have no idea how many calories you should be eating, how can you ensure you are feeding your body what it needs to function and in turn will allow you to lose the fat you want to shed? Missing this part of the process is what most often causes the dreaded plateau, aka the "fat loss brick wall". So do yourself one huge favor and take a few minutes to do some quick calculations.
Steps
Find out what your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is, or specifically, how many calories your body needs to function properly if you spent the entire day sedentary. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is often used interchangeably with BMR; although they are slightly different, estimating either is sufficient for the purpose of losing weight. To calculate your RMR, you can use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation.[1] There are also calculators online that can do this for you, which is easier and quicker than:
RMR = 9.99w + 6.25s - 4.92a + 166g - 161
w = weight in kilograms; if you know your weight in pounds, divide by 2.2 to get your weight in kilograms
s = your height in centimeters; if you know your height in inches, multiply by 2.54 to get your height in centimeters
a = age in years
g = gender = 1 for males, 0 for females
Account for your activity level. Since you (hopefully) do not sit still in bed all day, you must add in the calories you burn through activity. Once you have your BMR, use the Harris Benedict Formula below to determine your total daily calorie needs depending on your activity level.
To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor:
If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : BMR x 1.2
If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : BMR x 1.375
If you are moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : BMR x 1.55
If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : BMR x 1.725
If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports and physical job or 2x training) : BMR x 1.9
So, to give you an example, a 30 year old woman who is 5’-6” and 150 pound would plug her information into the calculator and find out that her BMR is 1476.6. Then, since she is fairly active, exercising 3-5 days per week, she would look at the formula above and see that she would multiply 1476.6 by 1.55, to equal 2288 calories. That is the number of calories that her body burns on an average day.
Adjust for fat loss. This is where most people screw up severely. They take the deficit too far. In order to lose one pound, you must be in a deficit of 3,500 calories per week, or 500 calories per day (3,500 calories divided by 7 days). This is where the topic of "starvation mode" comes into play. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you are safe with a deficit of 1000 calories per day, or a 2 pound loss per week. If you are on your last 10 pounds or less, you will want to stick closer to the 1 pound per week range, or a deficit of 500 calories per day, so as not to go too low with your daily calories.
When you first begin, you may lose more than this for the first few weeks, which is normal, that is water weight and bloat. After the first few weeks, you should even out at a 1-2 pound loss per week. Be aware, you do not want to lose much more than this, as it will not be fat--anything above this range will be muscle for sure.
If the woman’s goal weight is 130, she would have a total weight loss of 20 pounds. She would want her weight loss goal per week to be between 1-1.5 pounds per week, so that she does not take her calories too low. Her total daily intake of calories should be between 1563 and 1788. As she begins to lose weight, she will want to recalculate her BMR, and then stick to the 1 pound per week (500 calorie deficit per day) range as she gets within 10 pounds from her goal weight.
Tips
You are probably thinking, wait a minute, I don’t want to prolong this, I am going to just go for the gold and lower my calories a ton to get to my goal quicker. That is the fastest way to hit a metabolic brick wall! You go too low with your calories and your body shuts down. So, if you only have a few pounds to lose be patient and do it slowly.
Bear in mind that approximately 70% of weight loss can be accomplished by modifying one's diet and caloric intake.
Stay hydrated as water is needed for fat-burning to take place.
Warnings
With any fat loss program, you will want to incorporate a weight training program as well, so that you keep your muscle and don’t turn into a pile of mush and skin.
If you sit at a desk all day, but work out 6 days a week, then you would probably fall under moderate activity rather than very active. It is common for people to over or underestimate their activity level, so pay attention. Since these are just estimates, keep an eye on your fat loss and if you start losing too fast or too slowly, then you will want to adjust your calories up or down accordingly.
Before starting any weight loss plan, it is recommended one consult a physician.
Once you have lost your weight, don't forget to calculate a new RMR (because your calorie usage will sink).
